Scarlett Johansson morphed from a semi attractive teenager into a lovely young adult. When she was growing up, she had a fat, squat nose that was especially visible when she smiled. That appears to have been fixed and replaced by a more refined appendage.
In her youth, she was not a cheeky girl. Now, her face has bloomed with healthy, happy cheeks. Cheeks implants are incredibly useful if you are seeking out this look!
Isn’t amazing what a tweak here and there can do?

September 2nd, 2008 - 10:40 am
Hmm. not sure about the cheeks but the nose is definitely different
September 2nd, 2008 - 1:07 pm
Vi—makeup might give her those cheekbones, but that IS NOT her original nose!
September 2nd, 2008 - 10:27 pm
her nose is SOOOO much smaller, undeniable nose job – she would have never made it in hollywood with that schnoz. Her eyes look a little different too, maybe more almond shaped?
September 3rd, 2008 - 1:09 am
I don’t agree about the cheeks either. Losing puppy fat will give you more defined features.
Definitely a nose job though and its a great job.
September 3rd, 2008 - 6:09 am
C’mon, Vi, I think we all know she slimmed her nose down. As for the cheeks, I highly doubt any amount of makeup or artificial shimmer could produce that much prominence.
September 3rd, 2008 - 12:48 pm
She smiles different, that’s why I think her cheekbones look different. But her nose is really changed!
September 3rd, 2008 - 1:55 pm
Sudden appearance of puffy babyfat cheeks in your 20’s aint achieved with some magic blusher, even if you apply 10 layers!
By 30, Scarlett will resemble to Madonna if she continues tweaking… http://i35.tinypic.com/ir422r.jpg
Good work on her nose tho. Having viewed old photos of her, I’m gonna guess on several subtle nose jobs. First a narrowing of the bridge in around 2003, and then some tip narrowing and refinement in around 2006.
September 3rd, 2008 - 6:33 pm
The cheeks are still up in the air for me. Remember that as women age, even those between 20 and 30, the collagen and fat in the face will start to deplete and break down. This could explain the cheekbone’s prominence in the later picture. Or she could have lost a few pounds on her own and that’s where part of the fat loss occurred, she is an actress after all. Not necessarily an implant issue.
And she most certainly had a nose job.
September 4th, 2008 - 8:00 am
Yeah I agree, makeup has to do with the look of her cheekbones. She has great cheekbones and yes her nose does look more refined.
September 4th, 2008 - 10:14 am
What about her fake breasts?
September 4th, 2008 - 5:28 pm
would look nice with a teeth bleaching also
September 10th, 2008 - 4:00 pm
I don’t even think it’s teeth bleaching. The lipstick’s color is just better suited to her skin and teeth color in the second pic.
And don’t agree about the cheeks either. When I was younger, I had chubbier cheeks, but as I grew older, I lost the puppy fat and they became more defined. But there was definitely a nose job there..
September 11th, 2008 - 3:57 am
She is gorgeous! Those scandinavian features of hers are breath taking. Why do woman need plastic surgery? We are all beautiful if we see ourselves as such and if we behave like this imagine how our kids will feel about themselves? Remember they will have all of our supposed “flaws” too.
September 11th, 2008 - 4:44 pm
She did her eyes recently. Suddenly the under eye ‘bags’ were gone, and the eyes even more uptilted–what you could see of them through the suddenly super-heavy dark eye makeup.
I’ve come across other pictures of her at about age 15. She would have been a world-class beauty of surpassing strangeness if she’d had the courage and good sense to leave her whole face alone. All of it worked together: the heavy-lidded eyes with ‘bags’ under, the assertive if imperfectly defined nose, the pointy chin and big lips. Change even one thing, and the balance is destroyed.
Now she just looks like an uneasy cross between attractive-but-dull and odd-without-distinction. SAD.
September 12th, 2008 - 10:09 am
As a teenager your features are all developing at different rates so looking at teen pics isn’t exactly reliable. …I would post pictures of my face at 14 and 18 if I could to show how huge huge huge my schnoz was back then, and I deeeefinitely had no plastic surgery.
Ack, everyone talks about puberty being awkward and sucking and then you rely on a picture from then stage saying that someone was ugly then. ..well duhh!
September 13th, 2008 - 11:41 pm
I think rather than having cheek implants, she’s had some of that “puppy fat” removed from them. The bones were already there, you can see their outline in the original pic. Definitely change of nose though. She always said she was impartial to getting plastic surgery….
September 16th, 2008 - 4:45 pm
I guess she’s more Hollywood ready, now, but I think she looks adorable in the before picture.
September 17th, 2008 - 11:30 pm
Yes, nose looks definitely tweeked. You can tell if it’s done on the profile and side view. Based on the numerous magazine ads of her face, yes, she it looks too perfect and smooth.
September 29th, 2008 - 12:31 pm
I like her better before – on after picture she looks like a piece of plastic.
October 6th, 2008 - 11:23 pm
She disgusts me trying to sue a magazine for saying she had a nose job, well she DID. Even if she didn’t who cares what they say, you can’t be sue happy because you have $. The court rooms are for serious issues. Anyway, I think there is no shame in plastic surgery and i would do it myself if i could afford it. There IS shame in not only lying about it because you are insulting the intelligecne of your fans who you’d be nothing without, and even worse to sue an innocent mag just doing their job.
October 7th, 2008 - 6:48 pm
the only thing that has changed is her nose – the rest just looks like make up
October 10th, 2008 - 8:59 pm
I don’t think she has had cheek implants; I have a similar face, and with age, my cheekbones have become very prominent.
Definitely agree on the nose–the surgeon did a great job.
October 13th, 2008 - 1:25 am
Yes indeedie, I believe you called it. Gentle malars and a bit of refining (not just?) bridge work. you did, however, forget to mention (so I will), the chiclet makeover for the teeth. If there is one thing about Hollywood is that nobody there sports their real teeth. Not a one. If it isn’t all blinding white and all the same size, it aint sellable. Scarlett is very attractive now, cut before, but as we know cute doesn’t cut it. She’s amazingly talented; I do think the pressure to be both thin and perfect really sets in hard after initial success. You are under constant scrutiny; look what Madge has done. Angelina. Pick a succesful female celebrity; they can’t seem to stop. Meg? I always show these pics to my kid so she knows that is real and what is not. Thanks, keep up the good work! This is a nice reality check for overworked real chicks making well under 40K with a master’s degree, with real stretch marks, boobs and gaps in our teeth. Rock on!
October 19th, 2008 - 4:36 am
I don’t believe she’s had any surgery on her face what so ever. There are two egregiously obvious differences of her appearance in these two photos:
1. As ‘me’ stated, the two were taken years apart from each other. I’m going to probably say around 6 or 7 years. Scarlett was a child actress. The before photo while she was teen. She’s in her mid-twenties now. As anyone should know humans beings tend to undergo significantly striking physical changes as we move from adolescence into adulthood- you (hopefully) lose baby fat and the physical contours of the face tend to slightly differ.
2. Look at the pictures closely. Do you see that rather large difference in Johansson’s distance from the camera? The first photo is taken much closer to her face, thusly the all of her features are enlarged. Especially the nose. You have to always take into account the setup and angle of the shot. Heck, my nose looks different at various angles!
October 27th, 2008 - 9:57 pm
Actually, makeup can do wonders for one’s cheekbones. All it takes is knowledge of highlight and contour, and voila, cheekbones! It’s not just about shimmers, like someone else said. Take it from a makeup artist. So I doubt she’s had cheek implants, but the nose certainly looks thinner.
And I also agree that weight loss can make cheekbones stand out. I’ve recently lost tons of weight after having a baby, and my face is extremely angular now, more so than before I was pregnant.
As for eyes, nope, that’s just heavier eyeliner.
All in all, she’s gorgeous. She doesn’t look like the rest of these cookie cutter little starlets out there. And she gets the good roles too.
October 28th, 2008 - 7:18 pm
I dunno
here is a picture of her transformation
http://www.makemeheal.com/news/images/scarlett-johansson-nose-job.jpg
Even when she’s not smiling her cheekbones are prominent. I’m gonna say a yes on a some cheek implants.
November 1st, 2008 - 11:47 am
What do people have against her face when she was young? Why shouldn’t that be attractive?
I wonder what she will look like in some years, let’s say 20 years from now. She will think ‘Well the nose job in my youth was well done, let’s have a little tweak here and some more adjustments there.’
And what will her face look like? More like Priscilla Presley or like Madonna or … Mickey Rourke?
She will appear on awfulplasticsurgery one day. And that’s VERY sad!
By the way: My wife has turned 40 the other day. And I love every little wrinkle around her eyes. I love her freckles. And I love waking up next to a woman whose face is alive! I would be scared to death if I’d have to wake up next to any of those surgery made monsters …
November 9th, 2008 - 9:56 pm
I wish celebs would LEAVE their faces alone. They trick a lot of untrained eyes into thinking people really look like that.
Her nose is definitely tweaked and I think her cheeks too because they are very prominent now. In the before pic they look flatter.
November 20th, 2008 - 5:57 am
I found a photo of me at 13 and a photo of me in my mid twenties…I look totally different. The end of my nose was bulbous when I was thirteen, my face was puffed up with no definition, by eyes appeared smaller as I hadn’t plucked and shaped my brows yet. I had no plastic surgery and now my nose is slim and straight and I have high defined cheekbones. most bones in the body stop growing late teens but facial bones and cartlidge keep changing and don’t harden up and stop growing until early 20’s. It is very common for someone to have a more defined face. Scarlett may have had a little of the nose shaved off but it’s possible she’s had none.
November 20th, 2008 - 2:30 pm
Funny, she’s been saying for years that she never had any surgery.
November 22nd, 2008 - 8:42 am
She might’ve had a nosejob, but she’s like 15 in the the left picture and 20 on the right. A lot can change (yes, even on your nose) when you lose the baby fat. And, as a photographer, I can tell you that light, angle, lens type, etc, can drastically affect how a three-dimensional shape ends up looking in a picture. The majority of the pictures on this site that are supposedly “proof” of surgery are mostly just cases of different angles/light. Anyone who has practiced any photography can see that.
November 29th, 2008 - 6:47 am
I don’t think she’s done anything other than her teeth. She just grew up and got more beautiful. Just like the plain girl from your high school who was smokin’ hot at the 10 year reunion.
December 4th, 2008 - 7:35 am
I think she’s just grown up and her face lost the baby fat.
December 7th, 2008 - 2:30 pm
shes not all the pretty at all. dont know why people say she is she hsd to have her nose done to look okay.
January 5th, 2009 - 12:00 am
Actually, the changes are probably just make-up. Here’s an example how dramatically you can change your features with just make-up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPPJSnReSa0&NR=1
January 8th, 2009 - 9:08 am
I liked the old nose better. Also, the cheekbones DO seem odd to me. All and all, she was much cuter before than she is now with all the glitter.
January 27th, 2009 - 6:44 pm
“she would have never made it in hollywood with that schnoz. ”
lol
she’d already been in some big movies by this picture.
February 5th, 2009 - 2:18 pm
She is one of the hottest famous people out there today, hands-down.
February 25th, 2009 - 9:29 am
Nose job–for sure. Cheek implants —nope. I have a very similar face shape to hers as well as nose. I had a rhinoplasty performed to narrow my nose down as well. As I got older….lost some weight, etc..my cheekbones became very prominent and with the right blush…it looks almost ‘implanty’. Cheek implants look very out of the ordinary and obvious. I think she’s a gorgeous girl and so what if she has had some work done. She shouldn’t be so aggressive about keeping it under the wraps.
April 27th, 2009 - 2:54 am
i was shocked when some sites claimed that she had plastic surgery
i am usually pretty good at spotting it but if i can spot it that means it cant be that good
she had me fooled
i truly thought she was a natural beauty
May 21st, 2009 - 4:44 pm
The rhinoplasty did a lot to change her look. It looks amazing! If she reduced and shaped her lips she would be perfect, but she’s still beautiful now as she is.
May 23rd, 2009 - 12:26 am
How old is she in the ‘before’ pic? Scarlett became famous at an age where most people are still only half-finished. I think she and the schnoz grew into better harmony and she lost some babyfat from her face, revealing the cheekbones. My face changed similarly as I matured, and I haven’t done anything to it.
May 29th, 2009 - 3:56 am
Awww but she was cute before. Not a fan of her.
June 22nd, 2009 - 12:59 am
My face was a lot rounder in my teens and early 20’s (I was thin) and as I aged (almost 40 now) my cheekbones became more prominent, as did my chin. I like my face better now, actually. Anyway, no cheek implant here.
June 27th, 2009 - 7:39 pm
Oh my gosh, I can’t believe some of the comments negating the fact that she has not had work done! One would have to be blind not to see it! For a start, with the cheeks, they have definitely been filled up- if she lost puppy fat, she would not have that rounded ‘apple’ on the top of the cheeks, it would be even flatter (I am good friends with a plastic surgeon who told me this). If she lost weight on her face, the face would be even flatter – no way would you develop the apples that has been associated with youth. Her nose has also definitely undergone surgery – it was huge before – and further, your nose gets bigger as we age – that’s a fact – I think she has had a lot of work done, just in a subtle way.
